It’s a new year, and we often hear, out with the old and in with the new, but perhaps not with vintage blue!
Blue jeans are part of the American story. If we look into history, out of the melting pot and our journey to push west came the clothes that are part of the American image. It was in 1853 when a Bavarian immigrant named Levi Strauss, a merchant in San Francisco, responded to the gold-rush need for tough miner’s clothes. He created the first pair with brown cotton tent canvas, switching to denim dyed in a reliable, uniform indigo.
By the 1860s, Levi Strauss’s blue pants were daily wear for miners, farmers, and ranchers throughout the West. In the 50s and 60s, the beautiful blues made their way into popular culture, which became known as the denim craze. A history beginning with working-class roots and the spirit of the entrepreneur, brought us into designer status and into the fashion of today. Around the world, designers and manufacturers now make denim clothes, with more than a billion pairs of jeans produced a year.
There’s much to say about a pair of jeans that have softened through the years. They gain character with age. Jeans do more than cover our bodies. They hold us. They remind us of reliable comfort, with just plain old familiar feelings that have the power to make us smile. More of that, please! And most likely the reason many of us own a drawer full we just can’t part with!
Chances are the day you felt yourself most comfortable and full of purpose, you were wearing your favorite pair of jeans.
Jeans live with us so intimately they take on a life of their own. They tell a story, taking us to where we need to go. The blue color, in various hues, makes any outfit complete for any kind of day. Do I wear this pair with the ranger set or concho belt, or do I wear the dark blue with my favorite well-worn boots? Maybe it should be with my heels or the fringe sandals! Can you tell we love our jeans?
It seems in these times we have given ordinary the day off. What better way to settle in with imperfection than with the homespun heritage we identify from our favorite vintage blues. Here at doubletake, we love nostalgia. Denim blue will always be a part of fashion. Fashion with a purpose. Come see our collection of beautiful blues, vintage and new. We have something for everyone, and why not bring in the new year by finding your softness to greet the new day!
